Roper Wows Crowd with Texas Artists: Frank Reaugh & Gurine Nilsen

Vic Roper of Clifton gave a lecture on artists Frank Reaugh and Gurine Nilsen on Sunday, May 22nd. Visitors were impressed with the Texas impressionist painter, Frank Reaugh and the surprisingly mysterious Clifton artist, Gurine Nilsen.

The museum is currently hosting Nilsen's watercolors on her Wildflower paintings but many were surprised to hear that she had several solo shows in Galveston while living in Texas. Nilsen returned to Norway in the 1960's to care for her sick uncle. The museum staff is currently researching her collection of letters to see if she continued to paint in Norway.

This lecture has been filmed for preservation. The museum plans to have all the lectures available for your viewing pleasure at the Cleng Peerson Research Library.

Vic also presented a video on Frank Reaugh as part of his lecture. It can be seen here.
