President's Remarks

I would like to start my comments with something I found in an article written by Michael Barnes, a columnist with the Austin American Statesman. While here for two weeks, Michael made it a point to come to the Bosque Museum, which he had previously visited. In his article he writes,

“It is one of the biggest and best local history museums in the state, which this time offered two excellent temporary exhibits on the Civil Conservation Corps in Texas and on German settlements of the Llano Estacado. We also learned more about the Norwegian immigrants in southeastern Bosque County who left behind clear influences on language, customs, faith – and enough of a connection to the Old Country that the King of Norway once visited here.”

Your Board of Trustees is very pleased with the changes that have occurred at the museum in the last year and want to encourage each of you to come and visit your newly remodeled building. This has given the museum the opportunity to change and enlarge the various exhibits. It also gives us the opportunity to bring in temporary exhibits like the two Michael Barnes described and the beautiful art exhibit being presented through November 5.

A remodeling project of this size has been difficult for the staff, and I would like to thank each one and ask that you express your gratitude when you see them. Remodeling always creates dust and everyone has been most gracious during all of it! We have a wonderful staff, and they make the Museum great! I hope that we have not inconvenienced you or your visitors; and if so, please accept our apologies.

The other thing that makes the Bosque Museum great is the number of volunteers that help us do everything. We would not be successful without the wonderful Docents, Museum Partners and many others who volunteer countless hours. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you and say “Thank You” from the entire Board of Trustees!

We have many exciting things coming in the near future and encourage you to invite your friends to become members of the Museum! It is a great place to bring the entire family!
