Pioneer Collection
The Pioneer Collection contains artifacts and archives associated with the founding and settlement of Bosque County. Permanent displays range from items associated with the Texas Revolution, early explorers and settlers, the founding of the county in 1854, the Civil War, the Chisholm Trail, the coming of the railroad, as well as early public schools, post offices, and county towns. Additional exhibits include a black smith shop and a kitchen from the 1900s.
Notable items displayed include three
pieces of furniture found in Ima Hogg’s book on Texas Primitive
Furniture, a large firearms collection and a medical collection of
instruments and books from early Bosque County doctors. The firearms
collection contains long guns used in every war in which the United
States fought from 1776 through World War II.
Of particular interest is a one-room log cabin built in the 1850s and now located on the museum grounds. The cabin is furnished with early Texas pieces depicting pioneer life in the Bosque Territory.
